Mentorship Program
The Mentorship Program provides one-on-one support by pairing mentors with mentees, with the primary objective of supporting the professional development of aspiring and practicing speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and audiologists by fostering meaningful, lasting connections within the field.
We recognize that while continuing education opportunities are plentiful, safe spaces for 1:1, individualized learning remain limited. Additionally, given productivity standards across many practice settings, the availability and consistency of mentorship can vary significantly. Collaborative learning benefits professionals at every stage of their career — even seasoned clinicians often discover new insights simply through the process of sharing knowledge with others.
Duration & Expectations
 Long-Term Mentorship (1 year): Some professional milestones call for support that unfold over time. Whether you're transitioning into a new practice setting, developing expertise in a new area, or building confidence early in your career, our Long-Term Mentorship option pairs you with an experienced colleague for sustained, relationship-based support throughout the year. Mentors and mentees meet a minimum of three times per year, either virtually or in person, with the flexibility to determine any additional communication together.
Short-Term Mentorship (3 months or less): Not every mentorship need requires a year-long commitment. If you're facing a new patient profile, an unfamiliar diagnosis, or a specific clinical question that falls outside your usual scope, our Short-Term Mentorship option connects you with an experienced colleague for focused, as-needed support.
This flexible option is ideal for professionals who need guidance on a particular case rather than a long-term pairing. Whether it's a single consultation or a few targeted conversations, you'll have the opportunity to tap into the collective expertise of the WSLHA community — right when you need it most.
Be a Mentor
We encourage current WSLHA members to consider serving as a mentor, sharing your expertise and experience to help guide the next generation of professionals or colleagues who are perhaps making setting changes or developing new clinical areas of expertise.
 Mentees
If you're a new professional, transitioning to a new practice setting or even developing expertise in an unfamiliar area, we invite you to consider becoming a mentee and connecting with a seasoned colleague who can offer guidance and support as you grow in your career.
