Melissa Johnson, WSLHA Lobbyist

Week two of the legislative session saw committees getting down to business, with more of a focus on bill hearings than on work sessions. Bills are being introduced at a fast pace, with the policy committee cutoff deadline just four weeks away.

We have bill numbers for the "years of service" bill for school-based SLPs and audiologists: HB 1374 and SB 5283. The prime sponsor of HB 1374 is Rep. Laurie Dolan, a freshman legislator from the 22nd district. Cosponsors include Reps. Harris, Doglio, Caldier, Sullivan, Kilduff, Ortiz-Self, Robinson, Bergquist, Santos, and Pollet. SB 5283 is prime sponsored by Sen. Judy Warnick. Cosponsors include Sens. Mullet, Rivers, Rolfes, and Keiser. If any of these legislators is one of yours, please email them to thank them for sponsoring this bill. WSLHA is working on getting hearings for these bills.
